Looking for Adventure While on Holiday Abroad?

Why Do I Need an ICC?

Many UK boaters don't realize they need an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) to charter or operate powerboats or yachts in the Mediterranean.

More and more European Countries require operates of craft to hold a Certificate, proving they have the appropriate training and experience to operate a vessel safely and legally.  If you are unable to produce proof, some substantial fines may be issued to those who hoped to just enjoy a day out on the water.

Where RYA courses and quality training is recognised world wide, those local authorities policing the waterways in many countries, will need to see a different certificate, the ICC.  There are different ICC's for each variety of craft you might wish to operate.  You can read more information via the RYA's ICC page.

So How Do You Get Trained and Qualified to Apply for the ICC?
1.  Complete a qualifying course such as the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course.  On successful completion, those eligible, can apply for the ICC for Power Driven Vessels up to 10 meters in length.
2.  Should you wish to become a Skipper of a larger Power Driven boats (over 10 meters), the completion of the Day Skipper Motor (Practical) course would the way to go.  (You will need to complete additional training and gain experience prior to completion of this course).
3.  For those wishing to Skipper a sailing yacht, the completion of the Day Skipper Sail (Practical) would be required.  (You will need to complete additional training and gain experience prior to completion of this course).
