We have an RYA examiner booked for 5pm for those students wishing to sit the short operators exam ( see below for more details ), finishing about 7.00pm if all 8 students sit the exam.

All students receive the RYA VHF ebook on the day of the course. This ebook is not required for the pre-course reading. The required reading is sent out by email automatically as you book the course.

Do I Need A License To Use A Marine VHF Radio ?

If you want to use a marine radio for what we call "routine traffic" such as calling another boat or a marina for a berth you must hold an operators license by completing either a classroom or online course and then passing the exam that can only be taken in person at a RYA training centre. More details below.

We also use real Icom radio sets that will act identically to a VHF radio at sea. We run RYA VHF radio courses every Wednesday costing £69 with Fridays & weekends costing just £99. This is a discounted rate for students who attended the vhf exam with us following the course. If you wish to sit your exam elsewhere then you have to pay the full course price of £129.

You will make & practice routine traffic VHF radio calls such as calling a marina for a berth, radio checks with harbour master, mayday calls and learn the distress procedure. The course costs from just £69 or can be free if you have booked any other RYA practical course with us.
