Understanding The Weather

Our one day Weather at Sea course follows the RYA Yachtmaster Theory Course Syllabus and is taught by an RYA Yachtmaster instructor.  It is aimed to help students who may never take the full Yachtmaster Theory course, but would like to improve on their own understanding of weather systems and forecast information.
This course aims to take students with a basic understanding of weather towards the Yachtmaster level.

Marine Weather for Sailors Solent Boat Training

 
The course does not give you any type of RYA qualification, but we do award an SBT certificate on completion.
 
Areas covered in the day include:-
 
Basic terms, the Beaufort scale 
Air masses 
Cloud types 
Weather patterns associated with pressure and frontal systems 
Sources of weather information 
Ability to interpret a shipping forecast, weather fax and weather satellite information 
Land and sea breezes 
Sea fog 
Use of a barometer as a forecasting aid
 

Run at our Shamrock Quay classrooms in Southampton starting at 9am running until about 5pm.

Cost is £69 per person.
