What Are My Next Steps?

What Should I Do Next?

Which Course or Event Could, or Should I Complete Next?

This is probably one of the most frequent questions asked by our customers on completion of their course.  Knowing how or when to move on to the next level can be a difficult decision, especially if you are new to a particular pastime, sport or hobby.

In terms of RYA training courses, there is a suggested path to take.  So surely following the flow chart will take you to where you'd like to end up and ensure you reach a specific goal, won't it?

But, of course, we all know from our own experiences, that just hopping from one course to the next, collecting pieces of paper and certificates, invariably leaves us with gaps in knowledge, experience and understanding.  Completing the beginner's course, then attending the next course, without being able to put what has been learned into practice, without the guidance of a professional instructor, can lead to us not fully understanding, where or how each of the steps link together.

So as well as completing the various structured courses which are designed to follow a set syllabus over a comparatively short period, Solent Boat Training offers additional events and bolt-on courses to further broaden the knowledge, experience and understanding of a particular boating scheme.  We appreciate that both time and money are limited for most. However, we also believe that the most efficient way to reach any given goal is to learn, practice and experience and repeat.

From our many years of experience, we have found that those that invest will invariably stand a better chance of success, but will also become more confident and confidence improves enjoyment, which then ensures long-term success.

Whether you are looking to gain more time onboard over a a week long Coastal Trip or navigating from port to port over a couple of days on a Solent Mileage/Experience Builder, to practicing those close quarter skills of manoeuvring, mooring, turning in confined spaces, where you can improve your confidence further, there will offer the event for that.

Maybe you want to introduce others to the world of boating, but without the worry of will they like it or not?  Then why not try a one day introduction.  Sail locally and get to experience what it might be like to become a crew member.  Get involved and become part of a team.  Have a go at steering, winching, hoisting and generally getting a feel of boating as a whole.

But what if you don't want to sail or you need experience and hands on in the motor or powerboat world, well we offer similar events, from marina skills, slow and higher speed handling and navigational practice.  Why not try our introduction to night navigation?

We can offer something for everyone, regardless of your current level.  From a 1 day introduction day to a 5 day Yachtmaster Exam preparation.

So yes, we know that sometimes jumping from one course to the next is best financially, but we will probably all agree, that a little additional investment will probably save time and offer greater gains in the future.

If you require any advice or guidance on where to go or what to do next, get in touch, and we will always be happy to advise.
