The RYA Powerboat Instructors course will teach you the techniques required, to deliver and run the Powerboat Level 1 and Level 2 courses, to students with little or no prior boating knowledge. You will be taught how to best deliver the course, in a structured, achievable and fun way, using a number of proven delivery methods. From introducing students to the basic safety involved in boating, understanding of the environment they will be operating in to safe and effective boat handling in a number of different situations, at both slow and higher speeds.
This 3 Day course will be run by an allocated RYA Powerboat Trainer, who will guide you through the fundamentals of different learning styles and then how best to apply them, during theory and practical based training sessions. You will be assessed and given guidance throughout these training sessions, whilst acting as both an instructor and a student for others attending the Powerboat Instructors Course.
On Day 3, an additional external Trainer will make an assessment of your delivery. They will be acting as a course moderator, to ensure you meet the RYA standards as an Instructor.
On successful completion you will be able to instruct up to and including Powerboat Level 2 under the supervision of the Principal or Chief Instructor of a Recognised Training Centre. If you hold the Safety Boat Certificate, you may also teach the RYA Safety Boat Course in addition.
Note: All students/candidates will be required to complete and successfully pass the RYA Powerboat Skills Assessment, to ensure that they meet the start standard, prior to undertaking the Powerboat Instructors Course. Details can be found within RYA Powerboat Scheme Syllabus and Logbook (G20)
